Michelle Obama’s Caviar Reality

THOUGH he’s battling GOP accusations that he’s an Ivy League elitist, Barack Obama has a lifestyle of the rich and famous, like TV show host Robin Leach, who always signed off, “Champagne wishes and caviar dreams!” While he was at a meeting at the Waldorf-Astoria at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Michelle Obama called room service and ordered lobster hors d’oeuvres, two whole steamed lobsters, Iranian caviar and champagne, a tipster told Page Six.

It’s nice to live large on campaign cash. Of course, Ms. Obama has a nice income, herself, and can no doubt afford to buy such a snack.

Just because you’re for the little people doesn’t mean you have to eat like them.

    It’s fine if the Obamas wants to order lobster and caviar. The problems are:

    1)Barak & Michelle have positioned themselves as people who devoted themselves to “public service” rather than to wealth acquisition. Looks like the “public service” choice is paying off for them pretty well, though–it often does–check out Al Gore’s 100-foot houseboat.

    2)More importantly, the Obamas favor policies that will tend to keep people like Joe the Plumber from *ever* getting to the point at which they would be able to order lobster & caviar, should they be so inclined.

    Oh dear God! Not the lobster!!!! This is front page news?!!! In case you haven’t noticed, most politicians at the national level are fairly well off. So what? Hey David, looks like the public sector is paying off pretty well for McCain as well – please tell me again how much he is worth? How many houses does he own? How many cars? I’m not rich, and I’ve ordered an expensive dinner or two. Find something newsworthy – this is a joke!

    I’m sure the room service menu at the Waldorf is pricey no matter what you order. But WHY in the sam hill did she have to be so obvious? How about a pot of tea with some little sandwiches and petit fours? Not good enough for ya, Michelle?

    I guess when you are given (notice I did not say EARN) $300,000 a year for a sinecure like MO does — not to mention being poised on the threshold of becoming first lady of a country you’ve never been proud of until three months ago — lobster and caviar is de rigeur. I’d be celebrating too. She has her image to keep up, after all. But didn’t she know that the details of her midafternoon nosh would be on the Internet before she could wipe the butter from her fingers?

    I’ll bet she’s shopping online for the next White House china pattern as we speak.

    Yep, that awful “hotel food” that poor Barack has had to endure for 20 months, which can only be properly rewarded with the presidency, as can all that time on airplanes. Poor guy.

    Michelle Obama was giving a speech in Ft. Wayne, Indiana at the time. I don’t think she was at the Waldorf.

    This turned out to be false anyway but I cannot believe the NY Post and Rush Limbaugh jumped all over it. oh and David just so you know Obama’s tax plan would actually help Joe potentially realize his dream. Granted he would pay a little more once he did get over 250K but stop making it sound like its half their money being taken away. It will be the same if not less than what Bill Clinton had and there are lots of good ways to get deductions.

    Next time they should send the National Enquirer! Turns out that story Page Six ran last week (it’s since been removed) about Michelle Obama ordering caviar and lobster to her Waldorf Astoria room wasn’t true at all! Says Page Six’s retraction in today’s paper:

    The source who told us last week about Michelle Obama getting lobster and caviar delivered to her room at the Waldorf-Astoria must have been under the influence of a mind-altering drug. She was not even staying at the Waldorf. We regret the mistake, and our former source is going to regret it, too. Bread and water would be too good for such disinformation.

    Michelle Obama is very charismatic just like her husband and it is the reason why i like her. I also feel that she could connect with people more easily than any other first ladies.

    I saw Michelle Obama in person and she is really a very tall Lady. She is also a very charming and charismatic woman just like his husband.
