Rachel Said If Obama Won She Was Leaving The Country

November 22, 2008 / 11:40 pm • By Dr. Melissa Clouthier

Well, Rachel kinda said that. And she’s moving to formerly Great Britain. Well. Now, she can blog the crazy from up close and personal. For some reason, her moving makes me sad. Just knowing that she’s in Texas is comforting even though we haven’t managed to actually meet face to face yet. Isn’t the internet weird?

Well, it sounds like she almost came to her senses when she failed, in a Google search, to find any Mexican restaurants there (she had heard about English cooking), but a commenter had to go and assure assure her that there really WERE some, so it looks like she will be going after all.

    Paul,

Don’t know what part of the country (world) you live in, but, being “called” Mexican food and “BEING” Mexican food are two different things.

It’s getting to the point it’s hard to get good “Mexican” food in Texas. All the East Coast Wussies come down here and whine because they detect a little “heat” in their food and start demanding the pablum they are used to back home.

I know the FDA/USDA/Congress has not set MDRs for Cilantro but that doesn’t mean some of us can live without it…

    “Paul,

I do know what you mean. In Houston (Texas), most of the “Mexican” restaurants could more appropriately be called “Californian”, but a few are the real thing.

For a long time, here, Felix’s was the place to go for REAL Mexican food, but they are no longer listed in the directory and may be out of business.

Molina’s is my current favorite; too many others fall into the category I mentioned above.

I mean (to paraphrase Linda Ellerbee on it), why destroy good food by putting black olives and sour cream all over it? :-)

    Melissa:

“For some reason, her moving makes me sad.”

I know exactly how you feel. I’ve never met the lady, unlikely ever to, and only conversed with her a couple of times by email when she had some technical issues with her blog.

And, yet, I feel as if a good friend is about to depart.

Does that mean I need to get a life, or something? :-)

Paul, Felix’s is indeed gone. The lengthy discussion of the matter on the houston.eats newsgroup right after it closed suggests that people either loved the food or detested it, and some people did both. I only ate there the once and I didn’t think it was bad.

Oh, and cilantro is the devil weed. You can have mine, if you want it.

Maybe she can meet up with Alec Baldwin and have lunch sometime…
