Autism: “There Is No Such Thing As A Genetic Epidemic”
Cancer maybe? Genetic switch with an environmental trigger? I think both can be explained that way.

The trouble with autism is that it isn’t a disorder or disease per se–it’s a syndrome, meaning (as you know)that people who have certain symtoms are diagnosed as having it even if the causes are different. In fact there are apparently several different causes for what we call autism.
Sometimes it is also diagnosed incorrectly–my cousin’s son, who is retarded, was originally diagnosed with autism.
