Bill Clinton Joins Obama’s Team

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

Iowahawk reports:

WASHINGTON DC – Ending weeks of speculation and rumors, President-Elect Barack Obama today named Bill Clinton to join his incoming administration as President of the United States, where he will head the federal government’s executive branch.

“I am pleased that Bill Clinton has agreed to come out of retirement to head up this crucial post in my administration,” said Obama. “He brings a lifetime of previous executive experience as Governor of Arkansas and President of the United States, and has worked closely with most of the members of my Cabinet.”

Clinton said he was “excited and honored” by the appointment, and would work “day and night” to defeat all the key policy objectives proposed by Mr. Obama during the campaign.

No wonder the old Democrat guard are thrilled while the Progressives are hyperventilating. Some on the Left have adopted pragmatism sooner than I would have thought possible. I can understand why, though. Idealism doesn’t work in Washington. Leave your souls in the hinterlands, folks, or else it will be ripped from you once you darken the city gates. Believe me, I know, it’s been eight years of pragmatic, soul-crushing hell. I wonder if being in charge of everything will be as frustrating for grass-roots Democrats as it was grass-roots Republicans.

Another thought. You know, we keep hearing that the Right needs to emulate the Kos Kids. But why? They worked their butts off and were paid lip service by the powers that be. If the right is to have a Right-roots effort, I want it to affect real change not some symbolic victory where the leaders kiss butt and then ignore their supporters.

In the case of the Netroots being dissed by Obama. Well, that makes me like him more. But the proof is in the policies. We’ll see. It’s good that he’s brought on Bill Clinton. The ship is righting itself as we speak.

While America Eats, Russia Knocks

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

From Fausta, here is what’s happening with our “good friend” Russia:

  • Naval maneuvers in the Caribbean
A potential Russo-Venezuelan OPEC-like agreement for natural gas
Trade agreements throughout South America with Russia delivering food, medicine, and NUCLEAR material.

Russia does nothing accidentally. Their Georgian act of war was timed while the world was looking toward China. This action is pure, unadulterated aggression, albeit rather passive.

I wonder what is Barack Obama’s comprehensive Russian plan? Sure hope he has one. He’s being bullied already.

I Am Thanksgiving Goddess, Hear Me Roar

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

Thanksgiving brings out the grrrrrrrril in me.

I need to gear up for Thanksgiving. Here’s the menu and what I’m responsible for:

Two turkeys (one big one dries out, I’ll cook one today ahead of time to make gravy and flavor the stuffing)
Mashed Potatoes (using the recipe, again, ahead of time, given to me by Right Wing Sparkle)
Stuffing
Sweet potato-apple thing (I don’t even like them. This is for my SIL, brother and sister.)
Green bean casserole with fried onions on top of course
Dutch Apple Pie with Homemade whip cream
Decorating and cleaning the house (it’s at my house)
Airport transport

My mom:
Pumpkin pie
Rolls
Cranberry sauce
Secret-family-recipe grape salad

SIL:
Chocolate pie

Sister:
Nothing. She’s flying in from Australia and will be jet-lagged. That, and she’s even less domestic than I am.

Men:
Football & Adult beverages
Clean-up

I feel like I’m forgetting something. Oh, I’ll probably do some carrots, too, and there will be a veggie plate and crackers and stuff.

Do you notice the gender divide? Yeah, I noticed that, too. Meh. I don’t mind cooking. Usually, I’m doing everything on my mom’s list, too. This is the first time in a couple years that I’ve had help, so I’m actually looking forward to that.

Domestic goddess. That’s me.

Cancer maybe? Genetic switch with an environmental trigger? I think both can be explained that way.
