The only problem is when billions, nay, trillions of dollars are spent on bad policy based on shoddy science.

I’m all for the scientific method, when it’s actually used. The scientists who have been so sure of themselves and their theories have demonstrated an utter lack of dispassionate rationality and a huge amount of religious zeal.

When you tell people that the world is going to succumb to plagues, war, famine, crime, hurricanes, and generalized disaster like some religious nutter proclaiming the end is nigh, you better damn well be right.

This isn’t a failure of science; this is how science is supposed to work. In fact, we have a name for this: the scientific method. The beauty of science is that it is the only method of generating knowledge that allows for the inevitability that we will be wrong about some things and provides a mechanism for finding a better answer.

If they really were interested in science, this never would have happened.
