Do High School Kids Need A Laptop?
Not so sure.

If I had to take notes in school at any level, I had to use paper and pencil (occassionally pen). My college did not allow laptops in the classroom (at the time); granted, laptops also weighed about 432 pounds too! :) Plus, being an engineering student did not allow you enough time to jack with trying to type in an equation with all kinds of random symbols and whatnot. It was easier and faster to write it down by hand. In high school, our computers were of the “need a boot disk to run” variety, hence, no network and no hard drives or flash drives to steal anything from.

To do this day, because I have used a computer (even the old ones) so much in my life my handwriting leaves something to be desired. They don’t teach penmanship anymore, and that is shame. My wife’s great aunt has beautiful handwriting, and it is something that is not taught any more. Then you see my handwriting and wonder how I got through school…

I have no issues with schools having computer labs where kids can go in and type up reports or what have you, but to issue each student a laptop is over the top.

Sure, give ‘em a laptop, and then get rid of ALL sex-ed as it really will become a cost redundancy.
