Generation “We” Will Make Generation “Me” Seem Altruistic

Just in case you think the world will finally be saved once all the Boomers are pushing up daisies, I have bad news for you: they spawned. The Boomers had kids who call themselves, without irony, “Generation We”.

Here’s their video:

Generation WE: The Movement Begins… from Generation We on Vimeo.

Tiresome, self-congratulatory and preening….wow, they’re so NOT like mom and dad.

A friend told me that this group of young people, who have been extensively focus-grouped and screened, are all about community, environment, family, yada, yada, yada. And I asked her, “What group of 18 year olds don’t spout empty platitudes?” I mean really. That’s what youth is all about–high ideals before you give half your paycheck to people who don’t work. Things tend to change once taxes are paid.

Generation We needs to put a cork in it. Accomplish something and then we’ll talk.

“Accomplish something and then we’ll talk.”

    Yea … well … see … like … um … wouldn’t that require making … like … you know … an effort?

What I want to know is, how can this generation be “the best educated generation” while “our educational systems are failing”?

Oh well, just part of their uniquely unique uniqueness I suppose.

Erm, Obama was born in 1961. Which makes him…wait for it…a boomer.

Generation “we” is going to be sorely disappointed when their great ruler, B.O., is unable to meet their highest expectations.
…No worries, we can blame Bush for at least 4 years.

    Doc,

If it’s all the same to you, I’d just as soon not see a bunch of ideologically driven youth blindly following the dictums of a cult of personality.

    Violence often follows.

    @Bob: “Violence often follows.”

Though “kids” tend to rebel against their parents’ views, one thing this generation “We” seems to have retained is “Make love not war” from their flower-children parents. The “We” kids make lots of noise, they think they know it all (all kids do), and they are definitely into idol worship (most kids are), but I haven’t seen much inclination towards violence, unless you’re wearing a fur coat.

Tell these “progressive” souls that they have to give up their iPods, Blackberrys and cell phones and I can guarantee that there will be a giant collective temper tantrum within 24 hours.

I deal with these little tickturds every day and they are all talk and no substance.

And I will give children to be their princes, and babes shall rule over them. And the people shall oppress one another, every man his fellow, and every man his neighbor; the child shall behave insolently against the aged, and the base against the honorable,
    (Isaiah 3:4-5)

As for My people, a babe is their master, and women rule over them. O My people, they that lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.
    (Isaiah 3:12)

Why should We come up with a fresh, innovative idea when we can lift the film-everyone-reading-the-script-and-edit-everybody-together-so-that-everybody-says-the-important-things-three-times-in-a-row idea? It won awards for Nike 20 years ago, and every advertiser from cruise ships to pantyliners has used it since. Those Boomers. We hate everything about them. Except their bad commercials.
