Ann Coulter: “Conservatives Aren’t Joiners”

John Hawkins of Right Wing News interviewed Ann Coulter. She nails one important reason why it’s more difficult to have a Republican grassroots effort:

So, does the “Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy” exist?

Sadly, no. I’ve been trying to get one off the ground for years. Turns out conservatives just aren’t “joiners.” If only we could get some funding. Maybe if we printed up some T-shirts or something.

A Republican grass-roots effort is challenging. People with jobs and lives tend to be too busy to march on the capital and dress up in pink shirts.

Another dynamic that makes conservative activism a challenge is the mindset of conservatives vs. liberals. Conservatives tend to be rugged individualists, which is a virtue in itself, but does tend to inhibit coalition building and coordinated activism.

Liberals, by contrast, seem more willing to subvert their individuality and interests to a group goal and identity. But this is a strength when it comes to building coalitions and coordinating purposeful action.
