I’m completely flummoxed.

Come on. You knew back in January 2008, when it became clear that McCain would be the Republican nominee, that a total disaster was on the horizon. You knew that he would be a complete dud and the Dem winner would likely engage in national suicide. You knew it was coming. And now it is here. No surprises about this.

I don’t think they believed George W. Bush and the American people had the will to fight. They were in for a rude awakening.

Sadly, again, your usual brilliance is overlooking something. Osama bin Laden specifically said that the U.S. might strike back, but not to worry because they would lose the will to engage in a long, drawn-out fight. And he was right. Oh, sure, a large number of Americans, including George W. had and still have the will to resist and fight, but a sufficiently large number of others on the left lost the will to fight about six months after 9-11. Or, rather, I should say, they lost the will to fight the Islamist enemy and instead started to direct their fire at America, including fragging Bush.

The enemy knew that would happen, and it has. They are emboldened once again. And the odds of a nuclear flash of light over DC or NY have increased.

I would agree with David on this. We no longer live in a representative republic. It's a sham democracy. The left just got a ton of political power after these elections and I'm not sure we'll ever get it back. This country is in serious trouble. However, I would also say that Americans were warned for quite some time what Obama would do when he was elected. Many people refused to believe it and were lulled into complacency by the Left's siren song. They wanted all of the handouts that the left promised. As I stated before, this country is getting the government and society that it so richly deserves. Unfortunately, the truly responsible people are going to suffer along with all of the idiots.

There seems to be a misconception that Obama needs the good will (or to keep what he had to a sufficient degree) of the people...

Why? We no longer live in a representative democracy, at least not representative of free markets, individual liberty, and adherence to Constitutional laws. What is represented now is the parasites, the socialists feeding us to the parasites, the MSM continuing to seduce more people into parasitism, and growing gov't force to find, and keep at bay those who would hold to the Constitution.

The socialist/communists now hold all the levers of power and they absolutely must use that power to KEEP that power through the next election. They are changing the rules, and making new ones, and do not intend to submit their power to a bunch of peasant rabble in the next elections.

Popularity is nice, but they have enough Quislings in the RINO Party, enough ignorant public school-uneducated dupes, enough propaganda apparatus, and enough of our voluntarily remitted (*voluntarily* at gun- point)taxes to fund them, and enough parasitic bums on the dole - not paying taxes at all - to FORCE upon us the power of a communist gov't. Expecting *principles* from the un-principled, or an o'er-weening concern for the opinions of those they hate and wish to suppress, seems counter-intuitive to me...
