America’s Lame Ass Political Class

Liberals and progressives are upset with President Obama, but swing voters and independents feel betrayed. From my latest Pajamas column:

The reason President Obama is tanking so quickly, though, is that he has a problem that President Bush didn’t have: Candidate Obama promised the world, sun, stars, and moon to everyone. People pinned their hopes and dreams on him. He stayed vague and hope-n-changy enough that all people felt reassured when he spoke to them. The problem is, he said whatever worked to whatever crowd he stood before. Or rather, his words were suitably bland that people projected their desires on his words. They heard what they wanted to hear, but what was he saying?

I figured it would take longer for Obama voters to be disappointed, but I underestimated the people’s wrath regarding out-of-control spending. Independents and moderates thought the President would govern as he said “responsibly”. Well, that’s not happening.

There are a few bright spots in the government, but the political class in general simply does not understand where the people are coming from. I’m sure they’ve focus grouped every phrase and every policy into oblivion but they just don’t get the overall point: Except for the socialists at the extreme, America does not want to be Europe Lite. They don’t. Perhaps when everyone was rolling in the dough, a little more redistribution sounded okay, but now, it’s patently obvious that people need to keep what they have to survive.

The only solution is an overhaul….change Washington by changing the players in Washington. That means heretofore uninvolved people getting involved, and running for office. Just voting isn’t enough. Making sure your Congressperson knows how you feel and then talking in person…

The wrong people are afraid in this new political equation. That should change.

The overhaul must include the current crop of pundits, like Krauthammer.

I’ve said this before, but the sad fact is that the people who would be the “best” at this job, wouldn’t be able to run. Because the current crop (and their sycophants in the media) would drudge up anything and everything in their past – or if they couldn’t find anything – make it up.

I’m a Constitutional Conservative, but I could NEVER run. I have an ex-wife and have had past credit problems and fallen behind on child support when I was without a job, etc, etc. Nothing illegal, never been arrested for anything (the “worst” offense beside speeding tickets is an illegal left turn (on red)) but it would get turned into some capital crime by any opposition. Not to mention that I don’t have a job where I could “take off” for 8-12 months to campaign or was personally wealthy.

While I was out for a pleasure drive this weekend, it occured to me the best way to resolve the entire political class issue is to turn the Senate and House into a lottery-type system.

Registered voters are automatically entered the same as they are for jury duty. You serve x number of years, and you’re done. Your name is permanently removed from the lottery system.

The President can remain as an elected office, but cleaning out the Senate and House is a good start.

    Melissa,

(BTW, this is not directed at you)…Well freaking Duh! What the hell were the swing voters thinking? Well, actually they weren’t thinking. They were so into an orgasmic emotional state of voting for the first black president (even though his qualifications was horrible…he was black, dammit!) that they failed to consider what he was actually doing. It was all out there for the public to see, but they chose not to look. So, angry moderates…how’s the Messiah’s ass taste again?

BTW, if you think I’m super happy about getting these people in elections, I’m not. They won’t vote against this radical because conservatism is better (which it is). The GOP still has not been able to present a very good message out to the public. The GOP will gain ground simply because the Democrats are so radical (which means that these voters will just swing the other way the next time something catches their fancy).
