It’s too bad my father is no longer with us, or I’d have to tell him that he was not a liberal as he thought he was, but in fact a conservative, based on his having volunteered to join the army and spend several years serving in the Pacific (because he didn’t have “more important things to do” like some Vice Presidents, or have a pimple on his butt like some radio commentators.)

Some of the (European) Left was guilty of something: SUPPRESSING their desire to fight fascism on the continent (Fascism was a response to “Bolshevism”, Cf., Reichstag fire) when the Nazi-Soviet (or “Molotov-Ribbentrop”) Pact was signed, and the Stalinist line in the Third International changed to a position of non-intervention. A year later and that disappeared, obviously, and (some of) the (European) left changed course again and supported the war they had initially wanted to fight.

I refer you to an 8th grade history book.

Youse guys should leave her alone! She based her “resistance to WWII” stuff on information gleaned from Senator John Blutarsky’s scrupulously researched chronicle of the War. His book also provided a lot of the background information for that recent classic, “Liberal Fascism”, by the brilliant Jonah Goldberg.

…In the movies, sure…

…including those who don’t have any useful info, but just want the agony to stop, and who will thus tell the torturers (oops, I mean, “enhanced interrogators”…) anything they want to hear, factual or not.

“The left resisted efforts to get involved in WWII.”

Tell that to the aforementioned International Brigade from the Spanish Civil War. Tell that to the Right-wingers of the time (like GW’s grandpa Prescott Bush) who were bankrolling the Nazis.

With all due respect, Doc, history isn’t your strong suit.

I have a Brad Pitt speech from another movie that I think addresses your post.

“I’ve been trying to figure something in my head, and maybe you can help me out, yeah? When a person is insane, as you clearly are, do you know that you’re insane? Maybe you’re just sitting around, reading “Guns and Ammo”, masturbating in your own feces, do you just stop and go, “Wow! It is amazing how fucking crazy I really am!”? Yeah. Do you guys do that?”

There are SO many mistakes I could point out here, and I’m sure they would all be ignored. Let me at least make the point that what happens in FICTION is not the same as what happens in REAL LIFE.

Otherwise, little boys everywhere would be trying to get bit by radioactive spiders.
