In fairness to Obama, I believe it is his intention to talk for an hour or more while saying absolutely nothing. That is something he has truly mastered.

speaking as an american, it is not the people of europe that hate us. just as it is not the europeans who hate americans. it is the governments and politicians that hurt us all. the european governments and politicians resent their weaknesses that prevent them from becoming as successful as america. and the american government hates the european governments because they wont jump to our governments suggestions or orders or whatever you want to call it. i dont blame the european governments and im not sure i blame the american government.
as far as the people go – individually and collectively – in my experience, they are wonderful. warm, welcoming, giving, helpful, etc. and i HAVE lived there for over 40 years, from turkey to the UK, from north africa to germany.
so people – get over yourselves and except the realities of today. we cant change the past. all the mea cuplas wont change a single thing. the government of the UK thinks all americans are simple merchants. the government of spain thinks we are some kind of revionist conservatives that want europe under our thumb. the government of italy doesnt last long enough to make up its mind what to think of us. the government of turkey is – and always has been – PRO-turkey and i dont blame them for that but they are really pretty much anti everybody else. the governments of north africa – from morocco to egypt are pretty much all pretty much ruled by despotic self appointed kings (the best thugs of long ago that could enforce their wills on the local populace) or military backed coups that have installed more recent thugs to impose their wills on the local populace.
the government of belgium is pretty much happy to have their little country left alone. the government of holland is extremely socially liberal but otherwise pretty conservative but still ruled by a constitutional monarchy.
the government of germany will do anything to get rid of their reputation from pre WWII, a tough row to hoe and therefore will do anything to avoid being called racist or anti-anybody. but imho, the germans still think they are the super race. im just sayin’ what i have seen and experienced.
what i do KNOW about europe is that before long they are going to be overrun by muslims who will enforce shria’ (sp?) law on everyone, including non muslims. islam require this. and they will do so by force if not by force of numbers. and when they do, those europeans who are left, will be screaming for a place to run to or asking the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA to come save their butts once again, and then look down their collective noses at what ignorant and uncultured “these americans” are with their big cars and money and loud voices. unfortunately, i fear, that if the muslims continue to reproduce in the united states at the rate they are now, we will be so overrun that we will be unable to help you sophisticated europeans when you call. and then instead of speaking german as you have had the opportunity to do twice, you will be speaking arabic.

so thats MY world view for what it is worth, which ain’t much. i only know what i have experienced and i am sure others have different experiences, some good, some bad, some more detailed living for many years in a particular country, others from a very short vacation in many countries. you can counter this post or just read it. i dont much care one way or the other. i know i am not going to change any minds that are made up, and i doubt anyone is going to really change my mind at my late age (68) but i am still willing to consider anything unlike many of my friends, children and more especially after many years of difficult living and working hard, my college educated grandchildren who think i am some kind of conservative iconoclast. so there it is. like it. dont like it. doesnt matter.

Speaking (as a European) there is no resentment at the US involvement in either WW. Indeed it changed (for the better) the history of the continent, I have to disagree with resentment of the US during the 70s 80s 90s – on a cultural scale and throughout the cold war Western Europe felt very aligned to the USA and not the USSR.

I’m not jealous of a nation – the entire principle of that is senseless. I think that the US does many things well and I feel the same about Europe. Nor am I nationalistic to the point where I feel either system is without flaw. The US has an important place in world events – of that there can be no doubt. I’d suggest it starts with sensible trade laws and environment policies and grows from there.

no but i have lived in europe and traveled throughout europe and we were dispised in the 70′s and 80′s and 90′s up to BHO. mostly because the europeans resent our saving THEIR BUTTS TWICE or they would all be speaking german. they hate us for our success and always have and always will. the sooner we realize that people (individuals and nations) are jealous and resent help from others when they cant helpthemselves the better off we will be.
we can continue to be generous with our treasure and young lives in battle, or we can let the rest of the world try to help themselves.
we already know they cant do it without us. china is a perfect example. slave labor making products to be sold in the USA and the government kees the money
