Cop Killer in Washington Pardoned By Governor Mike Huckabee? Update: Yes.

November 29, 2009 / 9:51 pm • By Dr. Melissa Clouthier

Looks like a violent, life-long criminal is responsible for the four police officer murders in Washington and that Governor Huckabee is the reason this man is on the streets. From the Seattle Times:

Nine years ago, then-Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee granted clemency to Clemmons, commuting his lengthy prison sentence over the protests of prosecutors.

“This is the day I’ve been dreading for a long time,” Larry Jegley, prosecuting attorney for Arkansas’ Pulaski County said Sunday night when informed that Clemmons was being sought in connection to the killings.

Clemmons’ criminal history includes at least five felony convictions in Arkansas and at least eight felony charges in Washington. The record also stands out for the number of times he has been released from custody despite questions about the danger he posed.

Clemmons had been in jail in Pierce County for the past several months on a pending charge of second-degree rape of a child.

This via Confederate Yankee who says:

If Huckabee—now a Fox News personality—did set this man free, his aspirations for a future White House run may be over.

I’d say so.

Are there any politicians out there any more who actually work FOR the people? Clearly, if Huckabee pardoned a criminal with multiple indiscretions under his belt, he’s not the kind of person I would want to lead my country. I can’t speak for others, but I would hope they’d feel the same way.

This story is tragic from beginning to end.

With the death of four law enforcement officers in Washington, it is but a footnote that part of the story is Mike Huckabee’s own Willie Horton.

    Tragic is an understatement.

Not that I would’ve backed Huck anyway – since it’s mostly a RINO. This doom’s him – and ALSO show’s the farce of the pardon process where good people still sit in jail who DESERVE a pardon, and POLITICALLY connected or hot issue criminal’s get out to hurt again.

The Huckabee pardon happened nine years ago. Huckabee didn’t have information about how dangerous this guy could be at the time. He had no way of knowing what the guy would do nine years later. If he had known, I’m sure he wouldn’t have given him clemency.

However, at the time that he killed four police officers, Maurice Clemons was out on bail in Washington state for child rape. Who let him out on bail when he was accused of such a heinous crime just days before?
Why is there bail for such a heinous crime anyway?

Isn’t it interesting that a clemency nine years ago (when he didn’t seem as dangerous) is used to comdemn Huckabee, but there is no word about the person who allowed bail for a child rapist just days before the shooting. It was clear he was a danger to society then. Do I smell a double standard here?
