I generally hate internet spelling pedantry, but when Mr. Ambinder put on his snooty-pants this morning, he kind of opened the door with an attempt at highfalutin language:

“Authorities respond appropriately; the President (as this president is want to to)”

Fail.

the “is want to” should have been “is wont to”, as in “is accustomed to”.

Interestingly, the “want” has been changed to “wont” on the Atlantic page (after a comment pointed it out), but the “to to” has not been changed to “to do”, which seems like the easy fix. Multiple layers of editing, indeed.

No matter how we ended up feeling about GWB, we will always remember him standing with the firefighter atop the debris of 9/11 and shouting in the megaphone that those who did this would soon hear from us. Thank you Mr. Bush for saying the right thing at the right time.
