I believe the follow-up inquiries since the SOU speech have the military largely favoring reversal of the don't-ask-don't-tell policy. So this appears to be a non-issue, despite what some perceived as "stony silence" from the simply well disciplined joint chiefs during the speech.

The same cannot be said for Alito, who wriggled like a schoolboy at Obama's barb. I was shocked to see Obama call out the Supremes, but I also felt that the Court's decision was completely unprincipled, and they deserved to be taken to task for it. There was nothing wrong with Obama asking Congress to fix what the Court thought was wrong with campaign finance laws. That happens all the time when laws are struck down. What he needs to do is fix what's wrong with the Court. Maybe he could bring back FDR's court-packing scheme....

There is a difference between gays serving in the military, and gay-rights activists serving in the military, which is what the push to repeal the policy is all about. It is not about gays merely serving, it is about shouting "hey I'm gay" and forcing everyone to approve. It is about putting gayness first, rather than putting killing the enemy first.
