Tom Tancredo Calls Sarah Palin Unprincipled: Which Principle Should She Adhere To?

March 1, 2010 / 7:42 pm • By Dr. Melissa Clouthier

Should Sarah Palin not endorse John McCain in his primary fight to be the Republican nominee for the Senate seat he’s now holding? According to some conservatives, yes. Even some leading conservatives like Tom Tancredo say so.

Over at HotAir, Ed causes trouble with this lede paragraph:

The decision by Sarah Palin to campaign for John McCain has opened up a Tea Party tiff between two of its firebrand conservatives. Former Congressman Tom Tancredo, who has campaigned among Tea Party activists for his long-standing fight against comprehensive immigration reform, declares Palin unfit for the presidency and an unprincipled politician for supporting his bete noir in his re-election bid.

What exactly is Sarah Palin supposed to do? She would still be moose hunting in the Alaska wilds had John McCain not plucked her out of relative obscurity to be his running mate.

The only principled thing she can do is endorse John McCain and hurry up through the primaries and hope he loses. Or maybe she really likes John McCain over Hayworth. There’s that.

Note that “Ed at Hot Air” uses that key giveaway phrase (used by RINOs — which includes McCain — and other Leftwingers) “comprehensive immigration reform”.

This is yet another one of Morrissey’s StrawMan arguments, used daily by McCain to confound so many American voters on the Right.

Palin’s recognized as having certain “courteous” dues owed to McCain for McCain’s naming her the V.P. nominee in 2008, and her campaigning for him can be somewhat dismissed in that light, but, it does pose problems for Palin as to what she stands for and what she doesn’t.

Morrissey trying to lay claim to Palin as being somehow complicit to McCain’s utterly false statements about enforcing immigration laws (and border security) is not at all a good thing for Palin. But it sure does help the Progressives. Among the GOP.

And Morrissey has never met a Tancredo statement he doesn’t refer to as “crazy”. I think he’s restraining himself in this snarky post of his, but, the point he’s making is: ‘Tancredo is nuts, Palin is one of us good Progressives.’

It foils Palin’s credibility, it services McCain and other Progressives on the Right (thus, again, pushing the GOP toward the Left).

I think some of Tancredo’s comments are crass but at the heart of most of them, he does maintain his own credibility and ethic, remains consistent on his views, despite his scratchy, somewhat crude verbal fumbles.

I think Tancredo should be taken more seriously — he does just not fit into the polished Progressive case of pills well — because he does speak out consistently about our nation’s need to enforce immigration (and voting) laws.

Tancredo never flip-flops. After watching Mrs. Palin the past year, I believe he is right about her. Would love to see Palin and Tancredo discuss illegal immigration and then have people comment.

Tancredo never flip-flops. He’s too gross and stupid to come up with a second idea and has that clarity and consistency befitting his near-vacuity.
