Books Sarah Palin Never Banned

Sunday, September 7th, 2008

I’ll just keep writing about this garbage because you won’t be seeing clear reporting. Even on Fox this morning, the message is that the press still has it’s collective panties in a wad because they haven’t had adequate access to Sarah Palin–thus, in their sour grapes, it is perfectly justifiable to report smears. I mean, what else can they do if John McCain won’t play along?

Some media “expert” gloated that John McCain was changing his tune because it “never works” to go after the press. And oh, yes, well, of course, the press is biased liberally, that’s not news. The Republicans just have to deal with it. That’s the way it is. Um, that’s the way it used to be. It used to be that the biased media could say anything and there was no way to counter the claims. Well, there is now.

There are two more rumors swirling around. I mean, seriously, have you ever seen the press and the left so apoplectic and grasping? The internal Obama poll numbers must be horrendous. Right now, the banned books. Michelle Malkin dissects the whole story and I’m relying on her reporting:

The person who first spread the Palin smear is identified as “Andrew Aucoin,” a commenter on the blog of librarian Jessamyn West. West has done the right thing in keeping the bogus comment up and pointing out in her main post that “there appears to be no truth to the claim made by the commenter, and no further documentation or support for this has turned up.”

One of Michelle’s readers notes this:

Reader Martin: “If you read the Anchorage Daily News article, towards the bottom, you find that Palin requested the resignations not only of the librarian, but of several other township officials. Why? Because they were political appointees who openly supported her political opponent. Palin requested the resignations a few days BEFORE she assumed office, apparently for political reasons, as would be routine in ALL such situations, including in the very small town of Washington, DC. [Didn’t some no-name politician fire all of the US Attorneys?] Frankly, it’s far more remarkable (and shows a great deal of tolerance) for Palin to have KEPT Emmons in office. And you’d think people would consider the source when Emmons claims Palin wanted to ban books.”

I’m guessing that Sarah Palin loves books and librarians, too! And I’m quite sure librarians love Sarah. At least one does.

Lefties Wonder Why We Laugh

Friday, September 5th, 2008

Maybe this is why we laugh:

The republican’s number manipulation games again.
Prepare for another stolen election!!

Let me rephrase this for the fuzzy of thinking:

The Democrats mental manipulation games again.
Prepare for another delusion!!

The hysteria gripping the left is the fear borne of an inability to face the truth: no election was stolen. They lost. The American people chose a different way. And if we’re fortunate, the American people will choose sensibly again. And that will mean not voting for Barack Obama and Joe Biden, but for John McCain and Sarah “Sarahcuda” Palin.

I hope McCain wins by a landslide so their delusion has less room to flourish.

Todd Palin As Modern Man, Sarah Palin As Modern Woman–UPDATED

Friday, September 5th, 2008

Via The Anchoress, via Founding Bloggers:

I don’t think the identity-politics crowd have been aware of how things go in the average family for quite some time. A woman relative of mine, close in age and an executive, speaks of the other women she works with. Most are fifteen to twenty years older, with no children and not married. They sacrificed family and relationships because they bought the feminist garbage that those two things were mutually exclusive. Now, facing retirement, they will get their comfort and solace in charity work or sitting on boards, which is something. But they won’t be holding children and grand children. And they won’t be holding a partner’s hand.

Meanwhile, they will be watching Cindy McCain who was educated, got married, raised a family, stayed young by doing things like car racing and traveling the world making a difference in the lives of children.

Meanwhile, they will be watching Sarah Palin who was educated, got married, worked, is raising a family, joined politics and is now the Vice Presidential candidate for the United States of America.

Meanwhile, they will be watching Todd Palin who worked, got married, started a business, is raising a family and who is taking time out of his career to support his wife’s service aspirations.

And all this is happening without the feminist belief system: that men are unnecessary, that abortion is crucial for a woman’s personal success, that religious people are sexually stunted (two families with twelve kids between them and the next generation with a bun in the oven implies that somebody is having sex), that the patriarchy keeps women down, that feminity is weak, that beauty undermines.

So how do those marinated in identity politics respond to these “unusual” (they are the average American family, hello) modern people? Barack Obama displays his sexism yet again by not directly taking on Sarah Palin but having his women surrogates do it for him. It makes him look weak. It makes him look insecure. It makes him look like he has no honor.

Let me explain. When I was in Chiropractic college, there weren’t enough women to have a women’s basketball league. So another woman and I played with the guys. No biggie. Some of the guys might be uncomfortable for a minute, wondering how hard to play me. It took all of one three-pointer in the eye, for them to get over the foolish notion that going easy was a good strategy. So, they’d play and hard. And I played hard, too. My favorite opponents played me like a man right out of the gate. It showed they respected me irrespective of my gender. My least favorite opponents refused to play. They refused to defend. They refused to take the ball to me. They refused to engage. It was infuriating both to me, and to their teammates, but they didn’t care. A woman didn’t belong on the court and the only way to convey that was to refuse to engage.

Obama is refusing to engage. That makes him a certifiable jerk.

The Anchoress says this:

Obama is making a tactical error.

Bill Clinton would never make this mistake. He and Gov. Palin would be able to go at each other freely, because they would both completely understand each other. Clinton would know Palin was an alpha-female grizzly, and he’d tease her. She’d know he was a bad boy willing to be endure a few scars and swipes for the fun of engagement.

Also, just a thought…if you want to be CIC, you can’t hide behind a bunch of girls. We hate it when Al Qaeda does that.

She is right. Bill Clinton may be a like women as sexual play things, but he also likes them smart and he does them the honor of engaging. Ditto, President Bush. Some of the best images of his presidency captured the President and his adviser, clearly disagreeing and arguing back and forth. It showed respect. He did not pay lip service to strong women, he respected them enough to engage them.

Speaking of strong men digging strong women. How about that Todd Palin? He’s obviously a man’s man. I don’t see his pinky coming up when sipping from a teacup, but I see him comfortable with himself enough to host a First Dude’s tea and luncheon.

Here is the thing, feminists: Todd Palin is not a freak of nature. He is the man that the majority of American women are married to. He’s a guy who likes his job, likes to work, likes his sports, likes his recreation activities–whether that’s monkeying around in the garage on an engine or snow mobile racing or yard work or reading a book or traveling–likes his kids, likes his house, likes his wife, likes sex with his wife, and is just an all-around decent guy. And, if his wife has a career that is taking off, he supports her.

No doubt, managing all this takes negotiation. That’s life. But Sarah Palin has affected changes in the lives of Alaskans and now has the chance to affect positive changes in the lives of all Americans. A good man would support this and a good man is doing just that.

The Palin pick uncovers some deep-seated emotions among the populace. Women have been angry listening to feminists bleat on about abortion and spousal abuse and bad men as though these are the biggest issues for women. They are not. Most women don’t define themselves by their uterus and ironically, the feminists have done just that.

Women have concerns just like men have concerns–time management, raising kids, taxes, saving for college, education, paying the bills, getting some rest after a long day. Todd and Sarah Palin deal with these issues every day, even now. They have careers and kids and life and it’s messy and challenging and a lot of work. And, it isn’t theoretical. It is real and immediate.

The Palins represent the average American family–good, decent, hard working people trying to make it all work. Far from being perfect, they’re struggling for accomplishment. The McCains, too, represent a working family. Cindy McCain is a CEO and a mom and the head of a charitable foundation while she supports her husband’s desire to serve his country.

The left needs to get with the program. The class warfare, gender warfare, race warfare has served them for far too long, but that tune just doesn’t play in America anymore. We are post-gender, post-racial and not yet post-class, but we would get there faster if the left would let the old standards go. It was their power base for so long–angry, disaffected people. It has served them politically but it has not served the country. It’s time to let it go.

Barack Obama, do the honorable thing, and engage your peer, Sarah Palin. Feminists, wake up and stop showing contempt for women who choose differently than you choose. Feminists, stop demonizing men as irrelevant. Democrats, recognize Todd and Sarah Palin for who they are: the modern man and the modern woman, working together to make a good life for their family and their country.

UPDATED: Volokh on the double-standards about men and women in politics. I have one quibble when he says, “Either it’s okay to delegate one’s parenting responsibilities to pursue political ambitions, or it’s not.” It’s not just political ambitions but serving a greater cause. There seems to me that there’s a threshold where some jobs, “ambitions”, aren’t worth the trade-off, but being President or Governor affords the opportunity to help many people including the future generations of one’s own children.

I remember reading the sour grapes Reagan’s kids had and later, their understanding that his service mattered. There is no question the kids of these families sacrifice for their country, too. But it happens whether it’s their father or their mother doing the job.

Live Blogging McCain And The RNC–UPDATED

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

You’re getting used to this aren’t you? Well, don’t. Dang, I’m tired. My hits are slowing a bit because Google and the guys (probably girls, too) searching have ostensibly figured out that there aren’t naked pictures of Sarah Palin here, or anywhere. Believe me, when they show up, they will be here with bells on.

8:06 PM Lindsey Graham

…. is boring. His hair part has me distracted. We won in Iraq. Boring delivery. Boring. Boring. Boring. “I’m not saying that Barack Obama doesn’t care, I’m saying he doesn’t get it.”

Instead of talking about him, let’s talk about music. Since you guys think I need an education about country music, let’s get started here and now. What music should be playing at the convention, because my opinion is that has been terrible. Tonight, they were playing music from Top Gun, Fall in to the Danger Zone. What the heck?

8:15 PM Tom Ridge

So I take it that tonight is boring night. No Rudy. No Mitt (although he was kinda boring). I’m also thinking that it was a good thing that none of these guys were chosen for VP. Whew.

8:18 PM Not a lot of claps for much of anything. I hope McCain himself is less boring than his buddies because good grief, this is painful. I find me distracted by Tom Ridge’s orange looking make-up.

Maybe the strategy is to pick the most boring speakers so that McCain looks like a firebrand. That shouldn’t be too tough, at this point. Phew. And evidently, during the commercial there was a great video of Sarah Palin and it brought the house down, but we missed it. Stink. Waiting for YouTube. Is it there yet?

8:25 PM Video about Cindy

MA in Special Ed–She’s first person in her family to get degree.

Had her kids. Organized American Medical Team. Now her work overseas. It’s weird. What about her mom? There’s all this talk about her dad. Her father is her inspiration. “John McCain helped her find her path, but it is Cindy McCain who accomplishes life-changing things around the world. Her father told her to leave the world a better place than it started. That was a weird video.”

Now Cindy!

Now introducing America to seven kids. She looks glamorous. Long, flowing blond hair and a teal suit. She looks soft. Her eyes sparkly bright. “This campaign is not about us, it’s about our exceptional country.” She strikes me as somewhat like Laura Bush, in being shy. And it looks like they’re having trouble with the teleprompter again.

If nothing else, the speakers tonight have demonstrated how remarkable Sarah Palin was last night. It is no easy thing to give a speech like this.

“I hit a home run in John McCain” Huh. I’ll let that go. He’s a good father. His example of honesty and honor. “John showers us with unconditional love and support, that every family dreams of.” I think McCain demonstrated a sense of this commitment with the Palins. Speaking of…..Palin is getting the biggest cheers.

She’ll be a great First Lady.

McCain Video

“John McCain abhors waste.” “He has seen too much, to think petty. Country first.” When you’ve lived in a box….Fred Thompson narrating.

Here’s John McCain:

Gold tie. Dark gray suit. Looks good. Crowd is wild. McCain is standing on the end of a runway and looks like he’s right in among the people. He looks presidential. Ann Althouse is right, though, wow, women have an advantage with HDTV because of make-up. It’s hard for these guys to look “natural”.

He accepts with gratitude, humility and confidence.

Why kelly green behind him? “She’s more my inspiration, than I am hers.” “I know that she will make a great first lady.”

9:22 CST Now the crowd is getting into it. “We’re going to win this election.” Another Code Pink lady causing a fuss. And now everyone chanting “USA”! “Don’t be diverted by the ground noise and the static” he says laughing. The crowd is going crazy. “Americans want us to stop yelling at each other, okay?” Off script, he’s better. More interruptions.

“I’ll stand on your side and fight for your future. And I’ve found just the right partner to help shake up Washington, DC, Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska.” Huge cheers. “And I want to thank everyone here and all around America for giving her such a warm welcome last night.” Now he’s listing her accomplishments. John McCain is very glad he picked her for running mate, I think. “I’m very proud to introduce her to the country, but I can’t wait to introduce her to Washington.” “Let me just warn ….change is coming.”

9:31 PM “You will know their names. I will use my veto.” He better do this. Earmarks and pork have killed the Republican brand.

Sorry folks, sick as a dog. I’ll give some wrap-up comments. I did continue to watch and listen.

Best line: I wasn’t my own man anymore, I was my country’s.

Second best line: 10:42: Education is the civil rights issue of this century.

He is right. Americans need choice. And I hope they follow through on this. The teachers unions won’t be too happy right about now. However, as some commenters mention, education is a state issue. Hmmmm… We’ll see.

Overall, it seems to me that he’s trying to frame himself as a reformer who transcends party and who will fight for the average American. He didn’t mention experience, but he didn’t have to. His life story is a testament to experience. He grew up in solitary in Hanoi. He learned to put country first and not self first. I feel like the implication there is that Obama is still a young man; still out for himself. Also, experience probably focus-groups as “old”. So, no need to stress that. Ma McCain at 96 looks pretty dang good and that’s a reminder too, that John McCain isn’t THAT old.

Barracuda by Rush Heart [Side note: Already Heart is protesting the use of the song. Newsflash, liberal boneheads. Your song will make more money in the next couple of months, and hopefully eight years, than you ever made the first time around. Be grateful. Your sorry has-been asses will actually be looked at again. But it isn't about the money. It's the art. Puhleeeze. This is all about being the cool kids in a playground that's as isolated and pretentious as everything you musicians rail against. So. Lame.] playing as the balloons drop. Nice. A note about Todd Palin. He has done a great job of being manly while deferring to his wife. She has done a great job appearing maternal and tough. Such interesting visual juxtapositions. It’s a fascinating sidelight and will be what captures the press’ attention.

John McCain is not a natural at these staid events and ended with strength and energy. How do you compare a man of his depth and breadth with Barack Obama? There is no comparison. On personality and charisma, though, Obama wins. The work across the aisle stuff grated on my nerves, but then I’m more conservative and libertarian. He’s a legislator. I generally get irritable with more laws and especially more liberal laws. McCain wasn’t talking to me, though. He was talking to swing voters who like the squishy talk. I hope it works.

Ultimately, his character and experience can’t be questioned. He’s softened some of his stances and met the base on a few like energy, thankfully. He’s not my favorite candidate. But the cast of characters all bothered me for one reason or another. So, faith in providence. Divine providence. There’s no question, to my mind, he’s the best man for the job. This speech did enough, I think, to put him on solid ground.

Live Blogging Romney, Giuliani and Future Veep Sarah Palin

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

Do ya (getting ready for the Alaskan accent) really think I’d miss this? Come on now! Be here or be square! The party starts in less than an hour. Go get yer beer and moose burger and get comfy in your Lazy-Boy. It’s going to be fun.

7:54 CST Other people live blogging The Anchoress and Ann Althouse (and just a note about Ann, she has been doing fantastic blog work about Palin). So, flip back and forth between us, just make sure you comment here. :)

8:04 CST Michael Steele is asking, “Do you want to put America first?” going back and forth with the audience. “Then let’s make decisions on our national security based on what keeps us safe, not what’s politically correct.” He’s getting the house rocking. “John McCain has the experience, judgment, character to lead….it’s about his knowing who the enemy is, and what to do about them, and who you hang out with, does matter. America should never be damned for being a place so many people want to call home.” Going after Jeremiah Wright, there.

8:09 Here’s Mitt!

“If America really wants change, it’s time to look to the West, because the sun will rise from Arizona and Alaska!” Romney doing a call and answer with the crowd, too. “Is Washington liberal? We need change from a liberal Washington to a conservative Washington.” I wonder why Romney and Thompson couldn’t show this energy while they were campaigning.

“America cannot lead the family of nations if we fail the family at home. Dependency is death to initiative. It is time to fight government dependency and fight it like the poison it is. It’s time for the party of big ideas, not the part of big brother.”

As a side note, Romney said that there’s no way he’d accept a cabinet post because he loathed the idea of being told what to do by a Presidential intern or staffer and dealing with the bureaucracy. So, he’ll be “outside the government” he said. Probably running a company, I’d guess. Who knows.

Money quote: “I have one more idea for energy conservation. Let’s keep Al Gore’s private jet on the ground”

“Republicans believe in good and evil. Radical, violent Islam is evil and HE [John McCain] WILL DEFEAT IT!” Crowd is chanting “USA!”

8:19 CST “Just like you, there’s never been a day when I have not be proud to be an American.” Wow, he’s just tossing big bloody steaks to the base.

Ugh, country music. Don’t like it. “If you’re going through hell, keep on going.” Ah, good. Quoting Winston Churchill at least. Everyone is jazzed in the audience. I can’t imagine that there would have been this same energy had Romney been the VP candidate. Sorry Romney lovers.

Ann Althouse heard something interesting. I’m watching C-Span. I don’t know what network she’s watching:

7:48: I’m just settling in for some serious blogging, and the first thing I notice is this open mike eavesdropping on Mike Murphy and Peggy Noonan. Peggy: “The most qualified? No! I think they went for this — excuse me– political bullshit about narratives… Every time the Republicans do that, because that’s not where they live and it’s not what they’re good at, they blow it.”

8:30 CST Mike Huckabee sad that he wasn’t here tomorrow night.

Money Quote: “I’d like to thank the media for doing something that I don’t think could have been done, uniting the Republican party and all of America behind Senator McCain and Governor Palin.”

He’s talking about civil rights in Arkansas. He’s talking about the greatness of Obama’s nomination. “As Americans we celebrate this milestone because it elevates our country, but the election isn’t about symbolism.” What we don’t want to change: freedom, security and the opportunity to prosper. Calls Obama’s “excellent adventure” to Europe. Obama brought back “European ideas” like “more government”. “Most Americans don’t want more government, they want less government.”

“The government that does everything for us, is the government that can take everything from us.”–Quoting Abraham Lincoln

He doesn’t like the Republicans portrayed as having “silk stockings” [edit: oops! not stalkings] and “silver spoons”. “I’m not a Republican because I grew up rich, I’m a Republican because I didn’t want to spend the rest of my life waiting for the government to rescue me.” [That got a standing "O".]

8:38 CST “Sarah Palin got more votes running for Wasilla Alaska than Joe Biden got running for the United States.” The place is going NUTS.

“You don’t have to earn your desk, ‘cuz these guys, they already did.” Punchline of story about teacher who made her kids “earn” their desks, but who ended up not having to because of those who gave us our freedom–vets. “These guys bought it for you. John McCain helped us to buy our freedom.”

I’m glad Huckabee wasn’t the guy. Man, he bugs me. I know. I know. Some of you love him.

8:46 p.m. Linda Lingle, Governor of Hawaii

She’s boring. Telling Governor Palin’s story. “The Palins have five wonderful children and a grandchild on the way.” When in tough times, “Families pull together and get through it.”

Talking about how as mayor you’re held “personally accountable for your decisions.” The people of Alaska and Hawaii are doing just fine.”

“I find it amusing that the two candidates of the other party talks about experience when neither of them have had any executive experience. ZERO.” “Mayors…. Governors are CEOs. Sarah is a great choice.”

Cindy McCain wearing green, greeting the Huckabees.

“Last time I checked Alaska had the same electoral votes as Delaware. And not only the same number of electoral votes, you can fit 250 states the size of Delaware in the borders of Alaska.”

“Reaching out to women.” Meh. I don’t know about going after this woman thing.

In walks Todd Palin, looking hot as usual. (Wait a minute, was that sexist?)

9:02 CST Whew. Glad that speech is over. C-SPAN is looking at the Palin family. Nice looking bunch. Cindy McCain sitting next to Bristol who is holding the baby. Tight pan right now on the little girl (Rachel Lucas called her a cute little turkey, indeed, adorable). Texas delegation waving their cowboy hats to the country muzak which I still don’t know.

9:04 Rudy Giuliani (one of my most favorite public speakers, btw) Wild applause.

“This election represents a turning point. We get to decide who’s the next president. Not the Hollywood stars, or Washington insiders, not the media, but Americans!”

Rudy is going after Obama. It’s delicious. “Nearly 130 times, he couldn’t make a decision. He couldn’t vote yes or no. It was too tough. He voted present. I didn’t know about this vote present when I was mayor of NYC. Sarah Palin didn’t have the “present” vote as mayor or Governor. As president, it’s not good enough to be present, you have to make a decision. A few years later, he ran for US Senate. He spent his time as a celebrity. It’s the kind of the story that can come only in America. [Crowd is laughing.] He’s never had to lead people, in crisis. He is the least experienced candidate for President of the United States in the last 100 years. Barack Obama has never lead anything, nothing, zero, nada. Not a personal attack, just a fact.” Oof. “The choice in this election comes over substance over style. This is no time for on-the-job training. We agree with Joe Biden, one time. When he said that, until he flip-flopped….” Leaves it hanging. He’s eating this up and the crowd is loving it.

“Change is not a destination, just like hope is not a strategy. John McCain will bring about the changes…lower taxes so our economy can grow. He’ll reduce government to strengthen the dollar. He will lead us to energy independence so we can be free of foreign oil. He will do it with an all-of-the-above approach.”

Crowd chanting “Drill Baby Drill”. Rudy has everyone all stirred up.

They rarely mentioned the attacks of 9/11. “They are in a state of denial. If you deny it, you can’t face it. John McCain will face it.” Now he’s talking about the troop surge. “The Democratic party abandoned the surge, they abandoned America.”

“In the single biggest policy decision, John McCain got it right and Barack Obama got it wrong.” Man, he’s going after Obama. “Obama promised to take public financing then broke his promise. He favored an undivided Jerusalem for one day, until he changed his mind. If I were Joe Biden, I’d want to get that VP thing in writing.”

John McCain said “I’d rather lose an election than a war. When Russia ran over Georgia, John McCain said, “We are all Georgians.” Obama’s first instinct was to create a moral equivalency, to suggest that both sides were equally responsible, the same moral equivalency of the Palestinians and Israel, then after consulting his 300 advisers he’d turn it over to the UN security council. Apparently, no one told him that Russia has a veto on the council. He changed his view to John McCains. I have some advice for Barack Obama, next time just listen to John McCain.”

“In choosing Sarah Palin, John McCain looks toward the future. She’s already one of the most successful Governors and the most popular. She’s been a mayor. I love that. I’m sorry that Barack Obama feels that her home town isn’t cosmopolitan enough. Maybe they cling to religion there.” Crowd is crazed.

“This is a woman who has no fear. This is a woman who stands up for what is right. She is shaking up Alaska in a way that hasn’t happened, maybe ever. And with John McCain, can you imagine how they’ll shake up Washington?

How dare they question whether she has enough time to spend with her children and be Vice President? How dare they do that? When do they ever ask a man that question? When?

We’re at our best when we’re expanding freedom. We’re the party that believes that parents should choose where their children should go to school.”

9:32 CST Sarah Palin!!!

Looking great in a black skirt and champagne colored jacket. Getting a standing “O”. Her daughter is teary. Everyone is going crazy for her. Little girl adorable. Husband looks nervous and holding baby. Crowd won’t let her start. They’re so psyched and cheering. Huge smile from Todd. I don’t recall any cheers like this at the DNC.

Just accepted the nomination. Woot!

“The pollsters and the pundits overlooked one thing when they wrote him off, the determination, the resolve and the sheer guts of Senator John McCain. The voters knew better, maybe that’s because there’s a time to campaign and a time to put our country first.” Son Track, I think, stands and gets a standing “O”.

“I’m just one of the many moms who will say an extra prayer every night. My nephew Casey is also enlisted in the Navy and serves on a carrier in the Persian Gulf. We are so proud…” [Crowd chanting USA!] Introduces Bristol, Willow and Piper. Aw, Piper waving to the crowd. Such a sweet pea. Welcomed a “perfectly beautiful boy”, Trig.

“Sometimes even the greatest joys bring challenge. A special child brings special love. To the families of special needs children all across this country, for years, you’ve sought to make America a more welcoming place for your sons and daughters, and I promise you, if elected, you will have a friend and advocate in the White House.”

Todd’s story. He is world champion snow machine racer. “Two decades later, he’s still my guy.” He stands up and waves. Everyone cheering. Her parents look so relaxed, like they expected this. Standing and waving to everyone like pros.

“They love their country in good times and bad and they’re always proud of America.” She’s a working-class hero.

“The difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull?” ….pause “Lipstick.” That was off the teleprompter and got huge laughs.

Now, she’s going to explain what the job of Mayor and Governor involves. “It’s sort of like a community organizer except that you have actual responsibilities.” They are hauling off a Code Pink protester. Small town people don’t quite know what to make about a candidate “one way in Scranton and another way in San Francisco. As for our candidate, you can be sure that wherever he goes

“I’m not a member of the permanent political establishment. I’ve learned quickly that if you’re not a member, that some in the media consider you not qualified for that reason alone” huge boos, she’s letting them go “here’s a little newsflash for those reporters and commentators, I’m not going to Washington to seek their opinion, I’m gong to Washington to serve the people of this great country.”

Oof. They will hate her more, now. Hate.

9:50 CST “That luxury jet? Over the top. I put it on E-bay.” Got rid of the personal chef. Senator McCain will use the veto pen in defense of the American interest. Vetoed nearly 1/2 billion dollars. Sent oil revenues back to people.

She’s talking energy and oil now. She’s going around the world–Russia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, –we need energy independence. “We need American energy by American ingenuity and produced by American workers.”

Money Quote: “This is a man who has authored two memoirs but not one major law. This is a man who can give an entire speech about the wars America is fighting and never say the word victory except when he’s talking about his own campaign.”

Wow, she’s got great timing. “What does he plan to accomplish after turning back the water and healing the planet? His goal is to increase the government.”

“Government is too big, he wants to grow it. Taxes are high, he wants to increase them.” Now she’s talking about her sister’s business and taxes. She has the crowd hanging on her every word. Amazing.

“Self designed presidential seals”

“A leader who is not looking for a fight, but sure isn’t afraid of one either.” Now she’s going after Harry Reid. “‘I can’t stand John McCain.’ Perhaps no accolade could give better proof that we’ve chosen the right man.”

“The American presidency isn’t supposed to be a journey of personal discovery, this world’s threats and dangers, it isn’t just a community and it doesn’t need an organizer. Let’s look at this clearly, there is only one man in this election who has ever really fought for you. …. in places where winning means survival and defeat means death and that man is John McCain.”

“To the most powerful office in the world, he’ll bring the awareness of what it is to face evil.” Very moving story of Tom Mo (spelling?)

“For a lifetime, John McCain has inspired with his deeds. If character is the message, hope the theme and change for the future, then elect John McCain.” Huge ovation. She’s walking across the stage. Thanked Tom personally (the POW). She’s eating it up. The family is on the stage now. The crowd won’t stop cheering. Holding the baby. Kissing the family. Bristol holding her fiancé’s hand.

John McCain showed up “surprise!” Ha! Crowd is wild. Everyone psyched. He’s wearing an orange tie. Looking pleased. Wow, crowd is so psyched.

“Don’t you think we made the right choice for the next Vice President of the United States? And what a beautiful family.” Crowd yelling “Palin!”

Wow. Home run all the way around. There is great gnashing of teeth amongst the Dems tonight. No doubt, they’re sharpening their swords as we sit here enjoying this.

10:19 CST Now some group I’ve never heard of is singing the National Anthem with the words of great American speeches sprinkled through it. “One nation UNDER GOD”.

“Raising McCain.”

Final thoughts: She is a Democrats worst nightmare. I fully expect them to go ape-sh*t, escalating every single day until the election. In addition, she is one of the most natural speakers and orators of either party. Her instincts are good. It’s so challenging for a woman to sound tough but not strident, or to not be interpreted that way. Did you notice she didn’t sound shrill or harpish even when delivering humdingers? She is a woman comfortable with being a woman and being in charge.

No wonder the Democrats are afraid. I’m glad she’s on our side.

Sarah Palin More Experienced Than Barack Obama, But Don’t Tell The MSM–UPDATED

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

Newsbusters reports Eleanor Clift’s response:

From the show taped on Friday at Washington, DC’s CBS affiliate and airing at various times over the weekend around the nation, mostly on PBS stations:

ELEANOR CLIFT: This is not a serious choice. It makes it look like a made for TV movie. If the media reaction is anything, it’s been literally laughter in many places across news-

JOHN McLAUGHLIN, TALKING OVER CLIFT: Where is that? See that?

CLIFT: In very, very many newsrooms.

And here’s Campbell Brown (who I used to like) doing the same. Remember when Barack Obama’s experience didn’t matter? Remember when it was the hope and changiness? Change you can believe in!

The media is ignoring the fact that Barack Obama is the presidential nominee and has even less experience than Sarah Palin and going to put it to her. Brokaw even mentioned the mayor of a town of 7,000 thing. Keep pounding it, MSM. You make yourselves look like deluded, deranged fools.

Experience. Experience. Experience.

Just keep saying the word “experience”. Keep saying how important it is for a nominee to have experience. Keep telling Americans how a young man with a thinner resumé and no executive experience is better positioned to be PRESIDENT, but a young woman with more executive experience and a reputation for actual reform (as opposed to just talking about it) is less qualified and try to not sound like a sexist pig.

Tom Brokaw spoke with such contempt, too. Humorless, angry and clearly unhappy that he has to be talking about this woman. It takes the radiating light off of Obama. You know, Bill O’Reilly was furious about how NBC went after Palin and the unfairness of MSNBC. Brit Hulme and Laura Ingraham defended Tom Brokaw and Brian Williams, but watching Brokaw today, I think O’Reilly is right. Even Brokaw isn’t even pretending anymore. Anything and anyone standing in the way of Obama’s presidency will be absolutely savaged and he won’t mind doing it.

So, let’s learn a little more about Sarah Palin in her own words. Is she the dumb little inexperienced, small-town, blue-collar, excessively breeding hick the media and Left want to present her as? Via Dri at Ace:

Be careful, media. The American public already believes you’re in the tank for Obama. Being perceived as biased is one thing, being perceived as against a conservative woman who has more experience than your chosen candidate is worse.

UPDATE:

Something else occurred to me. The press is wanting to get ahead of Sarah Palin representing herself in her own words. They want to form an image and opinion of her because they know Americans don’t know her. So, with flimsy evidence, if they can avoid showing her concretely and just “punditize” her, they can try to form an image so people will have preconceived notions to filter Palin through when they do meet her.

Cassy Fiano takes on the Lefty sexism, too. Good grief, the Media and Left do not get church-going folk:

Quick hint, lefties: not many conservative men will complain about seeing a conservative hottie in a bikini. And this is America, not Saudi Arabia. We think women should be able to wear whatever they damn well please. Of course, if you see a conservative woman in a — GASP!! — bikini, the lefties start screaming “HYPOCRITE!” and “SLUT!” and “HUSSY!”, and other completely nonsensical things like that. (Again, remember the Michelle bikini photoshop?) They seem to think that the “religious right” wants women covered up, all the time, and think that a woman showing off her body makes her a prostitute. I guess liberals, most of them being atheists or worshippers of Gaia, associate all religions with the Taliban. Unfortunately, here in America even the “religious right” doesn’t mind seeing a woman in a bikini. If that was the truth, I guess I’d get in trouble for posting this picture, huh?

You’ll have to go to her link to see the picture, but I assure you, it’s worth your while. A nice-looking conservative Catholic friend of mine in a bikini.

The press displays their insular, narrow-minded elitism through their Sarah Palin coverage. They might manage to offend just about everyone. Just keep saying the word “experience”. Pit-bull it. Every time you say the word, media-types, your boy Obama dies a little each time.

McCain-Palin: Have You Donated Yet?

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

Not sure yet? I don’t know how you can’t be sure, but if you’re wavering, go here and see who you’ll be voting for and supporting with your donation.

Donate here and now.

Oh, and if you do donate, you won’t be alone. McCain has received a Palin bump and Zogby has McCain-Palin over Obama-Biden 47-43%.

Update: Tons of pictures of Sarah Palin here.

Sarah Palin Topless Photos Revealed!–UPDATED

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

Nowhere else on the web will you find what you find here. Scroll down for more excitement or just Lefty insanity revealed.

It’s already vicious. And they’re going after her experience, but here is the best response via an Insty commenter:

Reporter: MR. McCain, how do you respond to charges that Palin has no experience?
McCain: If Obama had as much experience as Ms. Palin, he’d be ready for the VP slot, too.

The Anchoress notes the Obama’s ungenerous spirit demonstrated by his initial response to Palin’s candidacy and also how he’s treated Hillary Clinton. Like the Anchoress, I’m happy to have a candidate who is a working class woman. I am so damn sick of the effete, elite, Ivy league snobs telling Americans how they know more than you. MaxedOutMama feels the same and had her first political orgasm (my husband was a little disturbed at my enthusiasm).

Finally, someone who’s one of us. Finally a political woman who is like the women I know in real life. A woman who wouldn’t have hysterics if offered deer meat, a woman who hasn’t acquired the weary, traumatized Ivy ennui and distaste for real life and real people. A woman who understands it’s a problem if truckers can’t make a living and people can’t stay warm in the winter. A woman who’s shriekingly Middle America and middle class, and would sit down and have a cup of coffee with her plumber. A woman who’d date a plumber.

Yep. And I like her husband, too. He’s hot. He’s a real, manly man. He hunts, fishes, works oil rigs, snowmobiles and takes care of his family. And as “first dude” he’ll be taking care of the family so his wife can serve her country. So, they are a progressive family.

The fact that these people are normal and average will bring the hate. Remember when I was in Key West and I heard a woman sneer that “breeders shouldn’t be allowed here”? Yeah, well, the breeder-hating folks, Gaia-worshiping, gun-hating, church-loathing folks will come out in force. MOM went over to the DU and found this:

And just watch them tying themselves in knots here – the vitriol is spattering everywhere:
24. ohmygod. Calm down.
Stop attacking her because she is a mother or a female. Stop with the whore and bitch comments.
Talk about the issues. Dang–where are all the progressives?

A progressive responds:
31. I will attack her for whatever reason suits the purpose of making her look bad to my audience.

When I am among secular people I will attack her for being a religious zealot. When I am among people from church, I will attack her for being of a heterodox denomination. When I am among liberals I will attack her for her conservative views. When I am among conservatives I will attack her for her for anything they are prove to view as shortcomings in ideology. When I am among women, I will deride the obvious pandering of her nomination and the fact that McCain must not think much of womens’ intelligence, when I am among conservative men who dislike women in authority, I will rub their noses in it.

If I can attack her for opposite reasons over the course of an afternoon, I will consider it an accomplishment.

Same goes for Johnny Boy.

Sexism, thy name is progressive. Of course, conservative women, especially in the blogosphere know this. Most have been subjected to vile treatment, myself included. Eh, whatever. Sarah Palin is tough. She can weather it. Another tough woman, Michelle Malkin, is thrilled with the choice. So are her readers. Both women mess things up for liberals–married, kids, career, conservative politics. It’s all too much. Women, especially, must fit into a category and when they don’t, they pay.

You’re going to hear about, if you haven’t already, about “Troopergate”. Might as well know the truth, because you won’t get it from the MSM.

And what you won’t find here, and I know this is disappointing, is naked pictures of Sarah Palin. Ace gave me the idea for the headline when he posted this:

Lefties are furiously scouring the internet for Sarah Palin’s old position papers on NAFTA.

Just kidding. They say they want to keep the debate elevated and discuss the issues, but that is, of course, like so much of what they say, an utter lie. Mitigated only by the fact they’re so self-deluded about their own righteous virtue and lofty intellectualism they almost believe it themselves.

So what are they looking for?

Well, check out the search which just landed on my site. And the various lefty sites encouraging searching in this direction.

That about sums up the Left. Jeff Goldstein, ever salient, had me laughing as usual:

See, this is why journos in the bag for Obama should await the royal talking points before opening their dullard yaps.

But that was only the warm-up. Here’s the gist:

But in making this argument — that a 72-year old candidate is almost certain to kick while in office — what you have further done is begun alienating aging boomers who will soon be McCain’s age, questioning their worth and viability, throwing into doubt their general competence.

– Which means Roberts has managed to 1) highlight the inexperience of the Dem candidate for president by going after the inexperience of the Republican candidate for vice president; 2) has managed to make an implied argument that the inexperience of a woman is somehow more dangerous than the inexperience of a man, or a man of (half) color; and 3) has managed to make an ageist argument that could, at some level, get aging Dem Boomers to believe that their party thinks of them as prop voters, necessary for victory, but after that, to be set afloat on an ice chunk and allowed to drift off serenely into the great political beyond.

Add to that the calculus that many Hillary supporters will be thinking, “that should have been Hillary!” and what we have here is a perfect storm of identity politics for the Dems to try to steer their shiny yacht through safely.

The Lefties are crazed because Sarah Palin is a she, a mother, a conservative, and has the nerve to have a mind of her own, a job of her own, and an actual maverick. Plus, she’s hot. That’s the final straw.

No topless pictures, alas, but if there were, it would help, not hurt her. Be careful what you look for Dems, you might just find it.

Pictures here doing scandalous things like visiting troops in Germany, standing with her family in front of a mountain, you know, bad stuff.

Update: Ed Morrissey smells desperation. I smell something.

Updated:
Here’s the essence of it, from Ted Bronson:

The Left, capital “L”, (and can tell you much I HATE having to group the democrats, the environuts, the commies, socialists, and progressives, the feminists, and the gottdammed ufologists into a single label) has been telling us for decades that a woman can do anything, go anywhere, be everything to all and still be a woman. As long as she happens to be a liberal and conform to their agenda. It must be some kind of special hell to them to see a successful woman who isn’t. For decades, THEY have said that women shouldn’t have to stay home and take care of the babies if they don’t want to. Hire a nanny. Force your office to provide day care. Hell, you don’t even need to have a husband to have a baby, but it shouldn’t keep you from pursuing your own dreams or career. Paraphrasing something I heard recently: you shouldn’t be punished with a baby. So instead of standing up and saying “Wow, Sister. You sure are strong to have five kids and a career”, I have heard all day about how she shouldn’t have continued her career since her fifth baby was born with DS. I have heard women, WOMEN, saying that she should have aborted the baby when she found out it was going to be born with Down’s but since she didn’t, she should have had the grace to step out of public life to take care of it full time. I have heard folks today saying that there is no way she should even consider public life with a child that young, even if the boy didn’t have Down’s. These were all folks from Left saying this. The same ones who wouldn’t recognize hypocrisy if it French Kissed their grandmother.

The Left are the same ones who said Clarence Thomas and Gen. Powell were sell-outs to their race.

The Left are the same ones who ran New Orleans and Louisiana for generations and did nothing but beg for help after Katrina when their HARDER hit neighbors in Mississippi were taking care of themselves, while at the same time William Jefferson, D-LA, had National Guard troops haul his ass out to his house to collect $90,000 in cash that he still hasn’t explained.

The Left are the same ones who scream for alt energy but won’t let transmission lines go up.

The Left are the same ones who voted for the war before they voted against it.

You idiots on the Left are so wrapped up in the idea of power for it’s own sake, so that you can enforce your own twisted will on the rest of the populace, that you can’t even see you are using the same argument against Gov. Palin that you would have burned flags, bras, and effigies about forty years ago.

If there were only naked pictures. Gun pictures. They’re almost as good.

Best McCain Ad

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

Keep in mind that I’m not a huge McCain fan. I’m voting for him for the very reasons elucidated in this advertisement. Obama’s inexperience in the face of these world crises and his moral ambivalence in the face of tyrants adds up to such a troubling picture.

H/T Instapundit … Ann Althouse calls the ad “devastating“. I agree. This argument is what nags at the back of every American, including the Democrats soaking it all in in Denver. Ed Morrissey says:

“Presidential candidates get lots of criticism about policy stances during primaries that can be replayed as negative ads by their opponents. This, however, is different. It underscores Obama’s unreadiness, his unqualified status to assume the highest office in the country — and Obama himself makes that case.”

Obama v. McCain Debate with Rick Warren

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

If you’re interested, John Hawkins live blogged it. I have an opinion about the larger context, but I’ll save that for later.
