What do mass murderers have in common? Their facial expressions. At least, that’s the way it looks to me.
I don’t know what to make of this, but I thought I’d share these pictures and let you judge for yourself. Basically, I was looking at this Lanza kid and that professor who killed her colleagues came to mind. Then, I thought of the guy in Colorado who killed the people at the Batman showing, and I thought: they all look the same.
Clinically, they all look mildly hyperthyroid–you can see the whites of their eyes in some cases. Their faces are drawn. Their hair flat, dull, and looking like they may be nutritionally deprived.
I want to know what medications these people were on. The public has a right to know about them: their family situation, their parents’ psychological profiles, birth order, any psychological diagnoses, their I.Q.’s, surgeries, illnesses, vaccinations, medications, nutrition, genetics… everything.
Public policy will be suggested, but how can we come up with adequate solutions if we can’t pinpoint the problem? And clearly, all of these people have problems–and they aren’t new ones. People knew they were trouble. In many cases, family tried to intervene.
Don’t they look the same? What goes wrong in the wiring that we recognize this form of crazy? No one is surprised by them. Or these cases seem to rarely surprise anyone. Is it because we see and/or sense the crazy emanating off of them? Very often, they cross paths with psychologists, teachers, doctors, and their parents are worried, overwhelmed, in denial, or inept. [Lanza’s mom had confrontations with the school system.]
What do we do with this?
It doesn’t matter their names. In fact, I don’t want to dignify these killers with showcasing their names. They all look the same.
They share a bleak, blankness in their eyes. Their mouths are drawn. They seem to be removed, distant. And underneath it all, there seems to be a suppressed fury.
The world is unfair. Nothing matters. So kill the world.
These seem to be the faces of malignant nihilism.
Looks like a violent, life-long criminal is responsible for the four police officer murders in Washington and that Governor Huckabee is the reason this man is on the streets. From the Seattle Times:
Nine years ago, then-Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee granted clemency to Clemmons, commuting his lengthy prison sentence over the protests of prosecutors.
“This is the day I’ve been dreading for a long time,” Larry Jegley, prosecuting attorney for Arkansas’ Pulaski County said Sunday night when informed that Clemmons was being sought in connection to the killings.
Clemmons’ criminal history includes at least five felony convictions in Arkansas and at least eight felony charges in Washington. The record also stands out for the number of times he has been released from custody despite questions about the danger he posed.
Clemmons had been in jail in Pierce County for the past several months on a pending charge of second-degree rape of a child.
This via Confederate Yankee who says:
If Huckabee—now a Fox News personality—did set this man free, his aspirations for a future White House run may be over.
I’d say so.
Michelle Malkin has more.
This video is so ridiculously funny, it should be a movie. But it’s real. Still, life is funny. And I’d be laughing harder if my taxes weren’t paying this woman’s salary.
More at The Anchoress.
Has Charlie Gibson reported on this yet? Ed Morrissey examines why not:
All that being said, the ACORN story is not just a Kanye West celebrity dust-up. It involves tens of millions of taxpayer dollars, and potentially billions in upcoming legislation. ACORN has worked tirelessly on behalf of the Democratic Party in the last election cycle and beyond, helping to organize in communities on behalf of Obama’s domestic policy agenda. It’s a story worthy of national coverage, and leaving it to the cable news outlets may explain why people don’t bother to tune into the broadcast networks any longer to get informed.
Let’s pose the question this way. If the Federalist Society, which got a heaping helping of demonization during the John Roberts and Samuel Alito confirmation hearings, started giving advice to prospective pimps and hookers on tax evasion and hiding child-prostitution rings, does anyone think that the Charlie Gibsons and the Papers of Record in the US would let that slide to the cable networks? Or would it headline their outlets, complete with a dissection of Federalist Society support for Republicans?
And now, Michelle Malkin reports that a group of robbers posed as Obama health care workers to gain entry to a home. They robbed, pistol-whipped and shot the people. Nice.
Have you heard about these stories? No? Hmmm….
Anyway, the video is classic. And the girl posing as a prostitute and the guy as pimp are like caricatures out of a movie. It’s so ridiculous, it’s crazy. I don’t know if the ACORN worker actually murdered her husband, but all this publicity can’t be good for ACORN.
The Anchoress is saying that Google and the Obama website has been scrubbed. This is probably the most concerning to me. The Google part. When the government has such cozy ties to a company that the company will do a political operative’s business, one wonders what they’ll do to work against a candidate they don’t like.
What a mess. A hot mess.
Ed Morrissey reports that the ex-husband is alive after all. He just wishes he was dead. [I made up the last part.]
Gateway Pundit has the Jon Stewart clip from last night making fun of the Media for not getting the story. But Jon is missing the point. The Media don’t WANT to get the story. They are HELPING the president anyway they can.
A tale of two technologies. I don’t care that blood draws by cops help stop drunk driving, I don’t want a cop near a needle, period. Too many things can go wrong.
What about surgeons giving updates from the surgery? Coolness. Doctors take turns, nurses help open and close, and in between a surgeon can update on progress. Since I’ve been in the waiting room too many times to note, I must say that the waiting…often hours…is just so stress inducing. Being told that the first phase is done and went well or there has been some trouble as the tumor was more invasive than expected, might or might not be welcome news, but the worst part is not knowing.
A pro-life advocate was killed this morning. From the Flint Journal via Catholic Online:
“State police at the Corunna post have confirmed a well-known anti-abortion activist was shot multiple times and killed this morning in front of Owosso High School. The victim’s identity has not yet been released but the shooting occurred around 7:30 a.m., after most students were off the buses and safely inside the building, said Owosso schools transportation supervisor Jayne Campbell.
State police also confirmed that a suspect was taken into custody about 8:15 a.m. at the suspect’s home.
Owosso High School secretary Wendy Smith said the students remain in lockdown this morning and confirmed that no students were involved and all are safe with classes going on as normal. The shooting did not occur on school property, Smith said. Meanwhile, police have completely ringed with police tape a section of North Street in front of the school.
A black car can be seen parked at the corner of North and Whitehaven streets, where a portable oxygen tank is lying in a front yard next to a large sign bearing the image of a baby and the word “Life.”
Many women experience pressure, abuse, and coercion when faced with a surprise pregnancy. This is bearing out with research reported by LifeNews:
Elliot Institute director David Reardon, co-authored a Medical Science Monitor study of American and Russian women with the 64 percent figure.
His new report, Forced Abortion in America, documents cases of violence against women who refused to have an abortion.
It also highlights cases like the one in Maine, which saw a couple charged with abducting their pregnant daughter in an attempt to force her to have an abortion, and another in Georgia, where a woman forced her pregnant daughter to drink turpentine to cause an abortion.
Reardon says the cases are just part of an epidemic of coerced and forced abortions in the U.S.
Reardon said that cases of women being pressured, threatened, or subjected to violence if they refuse to abort are not unusual.
He pointed out that studies have shown that homicide is the leading killer of pregnant women in the U.S. and that women in abusive relationships are at risk for increased violence during pregnancy.
“In many of the cases documented for our ‘Forced Abortion in America’ report, police and witnesses reported that acts of violence and murder took place after the woman refused to abort or because the attacker didn’t want the pregnancy,” he said in a statement LifeNews.com received.
“Even if a woman isn’t physically threatened, she often faces intense pressure, abandonment, lack of support, or emotional blackmail if she doesn’t abort. While abortion is often described as a ‘choice,’ women who’ve been there tell a very different story,” he added.
It has been the rare woman in my practice who sought the abortion and feels no guilt years later. Most women were either pressured to abort or chose the abortion and feel guilt later and remorse later. It is the rare woman who truly “chose”. It is a rarer woman who has no regret over her choice.
Not while this cop is on the job, anyway:
Yeah, well. This is the way things will go…. It’s shocking. It’s outrageous.
President Obama promised change, alright. No one can say he hasn’t delivered.
Ah, the psychology of evil and the press…. explained by Dudley Dooright:
…turns out that the Gates Affair is really a legal problem regarding (give you two guesses and the first two don’t count) taxes. The intrepid Dan Riehl reports the mischief.
Who says Bloggers aren’t reporters? More likely, bloggers report what reporters refuse to report.
President Obama made a very big mistake. Wow. From Backyard Conservative:
There’s lots of blaming going on for the Holocaust Museum shooting. Just look at my comment section. So nice to see the freaks come out of the shadows.
Here’s been my experience with the haters: they might have different political bents but the genesis of their rage is the same. It begins with discontent–a discontent we all feel by the way. We see some wrong and injustice and want to do something, but the size and scope of the problem seems overwhelming. At this point, there are two choices: Do what we can do or nurse our helpless rage.
Killers end up in the latter category. They nurse an injustice and plot revenge. That is, they don’t exactly channel their anger constructively. They decide to take matters in their own hands.
It’s the same whether it’s the guy who kills the woman who leaves him. It’s the same for the white supremacist killing Holocaust Museum guards. It’s the same for home-grown Jihadists bent on bringing down America. It’s the same for the psychopathic murderer. It’s the same for the gang banger taking revenge over a turf violation.
A murderer completely justifies his hate. He nurses it.
A murderer also dehumanizes his opposition. He has to. The enemy deserves the death because he’s earned it. The murderer is justified because the victim had it coming. Always.
Fundamentally, the reasoning goes like this, “that person, group, association, idea doesn’t care about me, why should I care about him or it?” So the Virginia Tech killer can murder the world because the world abandoned him. Ditto the guys who were bullied. Ditto the white supremacist. Ditto the Jihadis.
Nursed grievances and the bitterness that results + Dehumanizing the “enemy” = Murderous Rage Resulting in Murder
When the murderers survive their ordeal and they’re interviewed, there’s a reason why they have no remorse: they believe they are completely justified in their action. Often, they’ve spent a lot of mind time building up their reasons why a certain person or group of people deserve to die. They keep lists.
Noticeably absent from their hate lists is a list of wrongs they themselves have committed that hurt others. That is, they completely lack self-awareness.
Anyone who has spent time on this earth has either purposely or accidentally hurt another person. Most of us, in our hearts, know this. We recognize our own cruelty and feel guilty and ashamed for our pettiness, meanness and smallness of spirit. This is good. This self-awareness serves as inhibition for taking justice into our own hands. Heaven forbid all the people we’ve neglected or overtly harmed put us on a list, right?
When the Pharisees brought the woman caught in adultery to Jesus, they wanted to stone her. He wrote in the dirt and said, “Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone.” This is part of the underpinning of American justice. We don’t just drag people we feel have wronged us, or society, out and stone them. We have a system of justice that tries them based on evidence and we all live with the decision of that justice. This is the rule of law.
Murderers invariably view themselves as tools of justice, no matter how sick and demented. The world is cruel to children anyway, they’re better off dead–any molester, murderer or mother who drowns her children goes down this warped thinking path.
It takes a long rationalizing road to finally murder. That’s why rehabilitation rarely works. Nothing short of a lightning strike on the road to Damascus and the resulting blindness seems to get the attention of people bent on imposing their form of justice. Since that sort of jolt of awareness is only in God’s capability, prison and the death sentence for these people seem the best decision for a society that needs to be free of this malignancy.
The finger pointing about the recent murders is silly. The root cause is the same and the cover for the killings is ideology, The truth is that the murderers would find some way to nurse their grievances–that is, they were inclined to be angry, they just needed to find a group that could reflect and feed their hate. And there are no shortage of groups to do just that.
